This immature blackheaded heron was photographed while on an afternoon game drive in the Lower Zambezi National Park. At first glance it looks like a grey heron, but closer inspection shows that it lacks the distinguishing yellow bill and black stripe behind the eye. Once mature, the upper head and neck will be black, with white below.
