This is an L-series lens featuring UD (ultra-low dispersion) glass with fluorite elements for superior optical performance and image quality.

It is a favorite of wildlife photographers working from the confines of a safari vehicle because of its compact size, light weight and excellent IS, allowing hand-holding.

It has an inner focusing ring with full-time manual focus, while closest focusing distance of only 4' 9" (1.5m), allows frame-filling shots of small creatures.

Compatible with:
This lens can be used on all Canon EOS bodies, including 35mm film cameras and digital bodies with full-frame, APS-H and APS-C format sensors. On APS-C format bodies (Digital Rebels/300D-500D; 10D-50D, 7D) the 1.6x lens magnification or crop factor gives an equivalent focal length of 480mm (672mm with 1.4x converter).
