Cheetah portrait, three-quarter view
Caption: Cheetah portrait, showing close-up of head and shoulders, Mashatu Game Reserve, Tuli Block, Botswana.   Photo Ref: cheetah_rctb-8723.jpg - © Scotch Macaskill

Camera: Canon EOS 350D digital SLR; Lens: Canon EF 100-400mm f/4-5.6 L USM IS telephoto zoom; Focal Length: 340mm; Aperture: F/5.6; Shutter Speed: 1/500; ISO: 400

Location: Mashatu Game Reserve is a private game reserve situated in the Tuli Block region in the eastern corner of Botswana. Although not as popular with safari travelers as Botswana's Chobe National Park or Moremi Game Reserve, the area is gaining a reputation as a more affordable and accessible safari destination because of excellent wildlife viewing and proximity to South Africa.

In Mashatu, large herds of elephants are common, while predators like lion, leopard, cheetah, and hyena can be sighted, together with the more common zebra, wildebeest, giraffe and a variety of antelope species.
