Eland are the largest of the African antelope, weighing up to 750kg. In spite of their size,
they are prodigious jumpers and when fleeing, an eland can sail effortlessly over a neighboring adult, while youngsters
can easily clear a 3m fence from a standing position. Both males and females have horns.
Camera: Olympus C2100 UZ digital.
Location:
Tala Private Game Reserve is a small nature reserve situated near the city of Durban on South Africa's east coast.
The reserve's mix of thorn trees and open grassland supports a diversity of wildlife and offers good
opportunities for taking pictures of giraffe, rhino, zebra and a variety of antelope, including kudu and eland.
Tala is unique in that it is surrounded by farms and other peri-urbann development, yet
much of this is hidden once you are in the game reserve. The animals have grown accustomed to vehicles
which makes it relatively easy to view and photograph the resident wildlife.
