We only spotted this young Whitefaced Owl in the Kruger National Park after we'd stopped our vehicle to look at a mature specimen (possibly the parent) about five meters away. The young owl was perched in dappled shade on the branch of a dead tree. With bright light behind, it looked like an extension of the branch and you had to stare really hard to see it. The tricky light made it difficult to get a half-decent photo and some fill-in flash from a powerful gun would have helped.
