The Lilacbreasted Roller is a common resident in South Africa' Kruger National Park, so the chances of seeing it in the park, either singly or in pairs, are excellent. It's striking colors are particularly evident in flight when the sun reflects off the specacular blue wings. It is said that King Mosilikatze of the Matabele tribe reserved the feathers for his exclusive use. In the breeding season the roller performs aerial acrobatics, including quick rolls as it descends rapidly, hence the name.
