Oor introductory wildlife gallery showcases images taken in Botswana (Tuli Block and Okavango Delta), South Africa (Kruger National Park, Sabi Sand, and KwaZulu-Natal), Zambia (Victoria Falls area), and Zimbabwe (Hwange National Park).

While the rest of the wildlife photos are grouped by species, this page depicts a cross-section of animals and provides a tiny glimpse of the incredible variety of wildlife found in the game reserves and national parks of southern Africa.

Taking Wildlife Pictures
Wilderness areas and their inhabitants are under increasing threat from overpopulation.

As more people realise this, so the interest in wildlife grows.

This awareness, together with affordable air travel and better digital cameras, has caused a surge in wildlife photography - people want a record of their safari experience.

Unfortunately, for most of us a visit to a game reserve or national park is just that - a visit, not a permanent state.

Limited Opportunites
So we have limited opportunities to take the sort of wildlife pictures found in glossy magazines.

But there are ways of maximising these limited opportunities - from better selection of equipment to finding a good seat in the game-drive vehicle - that can result in more satisfying safari pictures.

Although luck will often play a role in what one sees on safari, a basic understanding of animal behavior and how different wild animals are likely to react under certain circumstances will enhance any visit to a wildlife reserve or national park.

I hope that from the images and photo tips on this site you will pick up some useful information that will enrich your wildlife viewing and photography.
